About the position

The Registered Nurse at PM Pediatrics plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality pediatric urgent care. This position involves providing clinical and administrative support, ensuring effective patient care, and maintaining strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers. The nurse will work under the supervision of a physician, applying their skills in a fast-paced environment focused on patient needs and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations.
  • Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, intake, and prioritize patient care.
  • Perform procedures such as venipuncture, IV insertion, and urinary straight catheterization.
  • Administer medications including oral, rectal, IM, and IV.
  • Assist the physician with total patient care within the scope of practice.
  • Remain knowledgeable in pediatric pharmacology.
  • Be an integral part of the patient care team and assist with patient care within the scope of practice.
  • Perform monthly quality control checks in the office and assist in lab testing.
  • Maintain exam rooms with adequate medical supplies and prepare sterilization tools and equipment.
  • Practice standard safety practices and precautions.
  • Respond to emergencies and notify the physician promptly.
  • Establish effective rapport with clients, families, and other employees.
  • Follow policies and procedures to maintain operations and report needed changes.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Keep patient care information confidential in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain professional networks.
  • Enhance healthcare practice reputation by accepting ownership for new requests and exploring opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist patients with complaints and take an active role in service recovery when needed.
  • Assist the physician with efficiency metrics to improve urgent care flow.

Requirements

  • Pediatric experience is required; Pediatric ER, Pediatric hospital unit, or Pediatrics Urgent Care experience preferred.
  • Active state nursing license or active compact state licensure from the state of residence.
  • Prior experience and competency with nursing procedures, including IV placement and medication administration.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and terminology, clinic processes, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
  • Skill in rapid assessment of critical presentations in the pediatric population.
  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment and act calmly in emergencies.
  • Effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Energetic, highly motivated, customer service-focused, with a positive attitude.
