About The Position

This is a part-time Pediatric Dentist position, working Thursdays and Fridays. The role involves overseeing pediatric dental care in clinical and hospital settings, supervising dental residents, covering after-hours calls, and providing clinical oversight at satellite clinics. The position requires completing administrative tasks, maintaining ongoing dental education, performing annual evaluations, and ensuring thorough documentation. Key duties include diagnosing and treating pediatric dental conditions, performing preventive and restorative procedures, administering sedation, educating patients and parents on oral health, addressing emergencies, and utilizing child-friendly behavior management techniques. The role also involves collaborating with healthcare professionals, maintaining patient records, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and participating in community outreach.

Requirements

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school
  • Graduate of a CODA-accredited Pediatric Dentistry Program
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
  • Completion of an ADA-accredited Pediatric Dentistry residency
  • Eligible for hospital privileges
  • DEA certified
  • BLS, PALS certifications required
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities, attention to detail, and time management with proven deadline adherence.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, supervisory, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and treating pediatric dental conditions, including preventive, restorative, and emergency care.
  • Capable of explaining procedures and oral health practices to children and parents in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Knowledge of sedation, nitrous oxide, and anesthesia for safe and comfortable treatment.
  • Collaborative team player, working well with dental assistants, hygienists, and healthcare providers.
  • Fine motor skills for accurate handling of instruments in pediatric cases.
  • Quick decision-making in emergencies and complex dental situations.
  • Strict adherence to safety, health, and infection control protocols.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee pediatric dental care in clinical and hospital settings per CODA standards.
  • Supervise pediatric sedation cases and guide dental residents in clinical training, case reviews, and community service.
  • Cover after-hours calls for resident consultations and emergency care at Suncoast and partner hospitals.
  • Serve as faculty at satellite pediatric clinics, providing clinical oversight.
  • Complete administrative tasks per Suncoast CHC policies and maintain ongoing dental education per Florida and board requirements.
  • Perform annual evaluations and maintain licensure and credentials.
  • Ensure thorough documentation through supervision attestation and patient record countersignatures.
  • Diagnose and treat pediatric dental conditions, including cavities, gum disease, and developmental issues.
  • Perform preventive and restorative procedures like cleanings, sealants, fillings, crowns, and space maintainers.
  • Administer sedation or anesthesia as needed to ensure a comfortable experience for young patients.
  • Educate children and parents on oral health, emphasizing preventive habits like brushing, flossing, and diet.
  • Address dental emergencies, such as trauma or infections, promptly and compassionately.
  • Use child-friendly behavior management techniques to ensure a positive experience.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Maintain detailed patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, and follow-ups.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in community outreach to promote oral health in schools and clinics.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the centers.
