About the position

Are you an accomplished pediatric cardiac sonographer who is passionate about patient care and would like to join a vibrant, expanding team? At Banner Health, medical imaging is essential to providing top-notch patient care. Join us! You must be able to work in a dynamic, expanding, and fast-paced accredited pediatric echo lab as a registered pediatric cardiac sonographer. At our several hospital campuses, we offer services in both inpatient and outpatient clinic settings, including satellite clinics with portable equipment. Traveling and being flexible at the last minute are requirements. You can choose from a variety of assignments depending on whether you live in the East or West Valley. Transthoracic echocardiograms must be performed for both adult and pediatric patients with basic to complicated congenital heart disease. Make use of your superior understanding of cardiac physiology and illness to make sure that preliminary reports contain detailed information and that important discoveries are communicated promptly. Exams must be conducted in acute hospital settings, such as the operating room, cardiac catheter lab, emergency department, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, and other inpatient units. Opportunities are available to act as a preceptor for students or new employees as necessary as well to learn and perform Fetal Echocardiograms and Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Must be open to taking holiday and after-hours calls at various hospital locations. Strong time management abilities and outstanding people skills are required. Call bonuses, working 4-10 hour shifts are all excellent incentives.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs echocardiograms on pediatric and adult patients with complex congenital heart disease utilizing department specific protocols.
  • Records, interrogates, quantifies, and measures both the presence of normal and abnormal anatomy or physiology in a manner consistent with approved standards.
  • Independently produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate preliminary reports and documentation.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers' orders.
  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement processes including application and/or maintenance of accreditation requirements of lab.
  • Participates in the educational objectives of the pediatric echocardiography laboratory, including effectively mentoring or precepting other sonographers, students or other trainees.
  • Demonstrates competence, at a highly proficient level, in assisting with invasive/interventional and intraoperative procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements and maintenance requirements.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department.
  • Independently performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols.

Requirements

  • Two-year associate degree in Allied Health or related field required.
  • Requires national certification in the area of specialty from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE), or a Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS).
  • BLS certification required.
  • Requires three years of diagnostic cardiology cardiac sonography experience in Peds.
  • Must demonstrate high quality skills as a cardiac sonographer, acts as a clinical resource, has ability to effectively train others, promote quality and efficiency, and demonstrates an expertise in cardiac sonic imaging and is knowledgeable in accreditation standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred certifications from RVT for Vascular, RCS for echo.
  • Current or recent (past 12 months) experience in cardiac critical care setting as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
