About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides essential support to clients in their homes, helping them maintain independence and improve their quality of life. This role involves delivering personalized care and assistance with daily living activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients while fostering a compassionate and respectful environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, ensuring their dignity and comfort.
  • Help clients with mobility and transfers, including walking, using mobility aids, and getting in and out of bed or chairs.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor clients for any side effects or changes in health status, ensuring adherence to care plans.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals according to dietary restrictions and preferences, and assist with feeding as needed.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to clients, engaging them in conversation, activities, and hobbies to enhance their social well-being.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe and tidy living environment.
  • Observe and report changes in clients' health or behavior to family members and healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Assist clients with transportation to appointments, errands, and social activities as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of care provided, including daily logs and updates on client status, to ensure effective communication with the care team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a caregiver training program or certification (e.g., CNA, HHA) is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a caregiving role, healthcare, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow care plans and instructions accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and CPR is a plus.
  • Proficient in using technology for documentation and communication (e.g., smartphones, tablets).
  • Compassionate and patient with a genuine desire to help others.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and respectful of client privacy and confidentiality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of clients and schedules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a caregiver training program or certification (e.g., CNA, HHA) is preferred.
