About the position

The Payroll Technician position in Anchorage involves providing administrative assistance to supervisors and employees. Key responsibilities include reconciling employee timesheets, producing payroll, answering third-party inquiries, and maintaining employee records. The role requires processing payroll in accordance with established procedures and deadlines, ensuring accuracy in payroll deductions, and completing required reports. The technician will also maintain physical employee personnel files and assist with audits.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative assistance support to supervisors and employees regarding employment benefits, wages, hours worked, and employment forms.
  • Processes semi-monthly and other payrolls in accordance with established procedures and deadlines.
  • Coordinates payroll processing tasks with appropriate HR and Accounting Staff.
  • Ensures employee timesheets are accurate, signed and filed.
  • Ensures payroll deductions are authorized, accurate, and timely.
  • Completes required quarterly and annual reports.
  • Reconciles taxes, benefits, and deductions for payroll.
  • Ensures timely submission of payment of taxes, benefits, and deductions for payroll.
  • Updates electronic personnel records in agreement with authorized Personnel Change Request forms (PCR's).
  • Provides regular employment status reports to supervisors as requested.
  • Maintains physical employee personnel files and assists with archive rotations.
  • Prepares employment records for financial and program audits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent plus 3 years' experience in general accounting and/or payroll.
  • Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
  • Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's License and maintain a valid driver's license throughout the course of employment.
  • Must have an insured vehicle, present proof of insurance, and maintain proof of insurance throughout the course of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Payroll experience.
  • Associate's degree in accounting.
  • Experience in fund accounting or job costing.
