About the position
As a Payroll Tax Intern at ProService Hawaii, you'll work alongside our Tax and Payroll Compliance team to support the accurate and timely execution of payroll tax functions during our busiest season from May to August. You'll contribute to daily tax deposits, assist with preparing quarterly filings, and support general ledger entries and reconciliations. Your work will ensure compliance with multi-state payroll tax obligations and help validate financial data across internal systems. This internship offers hands-on experience with real-world payroll tax operations and is ideal for students pursuing a career in accounting or finance who are eager to build foundational skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This 3-4 month internship requires a minimum availability of 20 hours per week and is open to candidates based on Oahu who are available to work in a hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and booking basic journal entries and account reconciliations related to tax deposits.
- Execute routine tax processes, including PEO file handling, tax deposits, and multi-state SUTA return preparation.
- Access financial systems and post GL entries to support tax payments and month-end processes.
- Reconcile general ledger activity with downloaded bank statements and ensure alignment with internal reports.
- Participate actively in team meetings, cross-training efforts, and collaborative tax compliance initiatives.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program, ideally with a focus in Accounting (Junior/Senior status preferred).
- Proficiency in organizing, planning, and juggling multiple tasks with urgency and precision.
- High integrity and commitment to fiscal responsibility and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, demonstrating initiative and accountability.
