About the position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist II/III to join the People Operations team. This role involves providing support, administration, and troubleshooting on payroll matters, ensuring compliance with company policies and federal regulations. The position requires expertise in tax and compliance, as well as the ability to manage payroll reporting and payments effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical payroll support to employees regarding wage, salary, and bonus calculations.
  • Administer Time and Attendance, including timekeeping changes and leave administration.
  • Process retroactive pay, supplemental pay, and other fringe benefits.
  • Handle off-cycle manual checks and stop payments for uncashed checks.
  • Ensure tax compliance, including W-2 processing and payroll accounting.
  • Utilize payroll software systems to run scheduled jobs and resolve errors.
  • Run ad-hoc reports and analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies.
  • Partner with payroll vendors to ensure compliance with regulations and laws.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate employee data and payroll coordination.
  • Monitor and respond to payroll inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll-related documents to employees.
  • Stay updated on payroll regulations and tax laws.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of relevant payroll experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of payroll processes and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor laws.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Strong tax and compliance expertise.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, HRIS systems, and Excel for data entry and analysis.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple payroll cycles and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with employees and resolve inquiries.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in payroll administration (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional).
  • Experience with SAP, ADP, or Workday.
