The Patient Service Specialist in the Float Pool at Scripps Health is responsible for creating a positive experience for patients by managing the check-in and check-out processes, ensuring accurate registration, and providing excellent customer service. This full-time role involves interacting with patients, payers, and providers to gather necessary information, verify insurance coverage, and assist with billing inquiries. The position supports the clinical care team and requires strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Interact with patients, payers, and providers to gather information for accurate registration.
• Manage the patient check-in and check-out process from start to finish.
• Verify patient identification and update demographic and insurance information.
• Ensure appropriate forms are provided, signed, and witnessed during patient visits.
• Verify insurance coverage, including benefits and authorization.
• Collect patient responsibility payments and prepare end-of-day reporting or payment reconciliation.
• Assist patients with HPE eligibility and discuss payment arrangement options.
• Provide price estimates and financial assistance information to patients.
• Handle customer billing and payment inquiries as needed.
• Support clinical care staff in the care of patients.

Requirements

• Proficiency in computer applications and excellent mathematical skills.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Organizational and analytical skills with problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to adapt, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

• 2 years of experience in customer service or healthcare/medical office environment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and billing guidelines.
• Understanding of DRGs, ICD9/ICD10 codes, and CPT/HCPC codes.
