About the position

The Patient Service Representative at Premier Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth patient experience from arrival to appointment completion. This position involves greeting patients, managing their information, and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The representative is responsible for collecting necessary documentation, verifying insurance details, and maintaining patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. The role is essential in supporting the operational efficiency of the practice and enhancing patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly greets and acknowledges patients.
  • Informs Aides and Providers of the patient's arrival.
  • Instructs patients in completion of medical history and other patient information forms.
  • Obtains accurate and complete demographic and insurance information from patients.
  • Collects required financial contract/consent forms and reviews patient information for accuracy.
  • Ensures all required authorizations and/or referrals are attached to patient appointments.
  • Identifies and collects co-payments, co-insurances, and past-due account balances.
  • Explains financial requirements to patients regarding billing and insurance matters.
  • Evaluates patient financial status and establishes payment plans as needed.
  • Accurately completes and interprets insurance and benefits verification.
  • Notifies patients and family members of network insurance coverage issues.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments and notifies patients if service requires authorization or referral.
  • Records all record requests and reviews HIPAA requirements before releasing patient information.
  • Communicates with patients in the lobby regarding delays in physician schedules.
  • Maintains a secure and accurate cash drawer and balances it daily.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Maintains a clean and organized front office workspace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of patient registration/front office experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of insurance rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and computer scheduling systems.
  • Experience with Athena or another Electronic Medical Records system is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in collecting payments is preferred.
  • Ability to verify eligibility of each payer per patient according to defined parameters.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality.
