About the position

The Patient Scheduling Associate at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital plays a crucial role in the Radiation Oncology department by managing patient scheduling and registration processes. This full-time position focuses on delivering excellent customer service, ensuring accurate patient information is recorded, and facilitating smooth appointment scheduling while adhering to organizational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform front-end customer service and accurate patient registration in electronic scheduling and billing systems.
  • Schedule patient appointments and ensure accurate insurance assignment.
  • Obtain and verify complete demographic and insurance information from patients.
  • Communicate referral requirements and patient financial responsibilities to patients.
  • Manage multiple high-volume telephone lines and route calls appropriately.
  • Access and document information in the patient's electronic health record as needed for job functions.
  • Maintain office equipment and ensure a clean work environment.
  • Adhere to patient privacy standards and HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a customer service environment, particularly with computerized scheduling and registration systems.
  • Medical/clinical office experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment and prioritize work effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with an electronic health record system, especially GE Centricity Clinical or Aria preferred.
