The position involves sitting with the patient and maintaining safety under the supervision of a licensed healthcare worker while adhering to standard precautions.
Responsibilities
- Sits with and observes assigned patients to ensure needs are met.
- Recognizes and reports information to a licensed healthcare worker.
- Reports any potentially dangerous behavior to unit staff immediately.
- Communicates/utilizes good customer service skills when interacting with families.
- Does not leave assigned patient unattended.
- Maintains patient’s privacy at all times.
- Understands role and may assist staff with some direct patient care.
- Other tasks as directed by charge nurse.
- Tasking as assigned by charge nurse including removing trash and linen from patient rooms, stocking isolation gowns and linens, helping patients order meals, passing out newspapers, passing water, stocking drink stations, cleaning and disinfecting respirators, stripping beds, transporting patients, answering call lights and phones, tearing down discharge charts, putting together new charts, and cleaning dirty utility rooms.
- Demonstrates a high degree of flexibility by floating to all areas according to tier level.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalency required.
- Current CPR certification.
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, explain or describe information to hospital staff.
- Attention to detail, able to observe and report findings.
- Ability to provide for patients’ safety and communicate with family members in a warm and friendly manner.
