About the position
The Patient Financial Services Representative I (PFSR) plays a crucial role as the first point of contact for patients and guarantors in various healthcare settings. This position is responsible for gathering and verifying essential demographic, financial, and insurance information to ensure a smooth patient experience. The PFSR also explains policies, secures necessary signatures, and provides exceptional customer service to address any questions or concerns from patients.
Responsibilities
- Verifies insurance benefits and confirms coverage is active.
- Determines correct insurance filing order for multiple coverages.
- Explains policies and secures required signatures on consent forms.
- Performs patient discharge functions, including reviewing after visit summaries and scheduling future appointments.
- Interviews patients and guarantors to obtain necessary information and identification.
- Confirms physician and prescription orders for accuracy.
- Schedules walk-in appointments for services offered.
- Collects patient out-of-pocket responsibilities according to collection guidelines.
- Prepares and balances daily deposits of all payment collections.
- Provides patient estimates as requested and guides patients to appropriate destinations for services.
- Obtains pre-certification and authorization for services.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
- Excellent communication skills and critical thinking abilities are necessary.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment with minimal supervision.
- One year of related hospital, medical office, or customer service experience is preferred.
