About the position

The Patient Financial Services Associate II role at MaineHealth is a remote position focused on managing various aspects of patient accounting. This includes billing, cash posting, cash reconciliation, refund processing, and follow-up on patient insurance claims. The role is designed to support the completion and closure of accounts within specified timeframes, while working collaboratively in a team environment to ensure high-quality service and production levels. The position also emphasizes continuous learning and growth within the Patient Financial Services department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all facets of patient accounting including billing, cash posting, cash reconciliation, and refund processing.
  • Follow up on patient insurance claims within filing limits to ensure proper account completion and closure.
  • Conduct necessary account research to determine governmental requirements prior to claim submission and receipt repayment.
  • Collaborate within a team-based setting to ensure even distribution of workloads.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, collaboration, and cooperation in a High-Performance Work Team (HPWT) environment.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED preferred.
  • 9 months of experience in a related healthcare field, with hospital or provider-based billing experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in keyboard and data entry skills, with computer experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet communication.
  • Experience or capability to be trained in problem-solving and working towards solutions independently or in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with auditing and training for the trainer role.
  • Proficiency in working with billing, collections, or healthcare accounts receivables for at least one payer or specialty.
  • Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD9/10 codes.
