The Float Pool provides a unique experience for caregivers to care for diverse populations of patients in many units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers. As Patient Companion for the Float Pool, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. You will also find a culture that encourages professional growth, educational development and career success. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working day/evening/night/weekend shifts varying between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. Shifts can be 4, 8, or 12 hours, as long as caregivers meet a 48-hour minimum over a six-week period.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within three months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Responsibilities

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.
  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
  • Initiate and perform CPR when necessary.
