About the position

The position involves assisting patients in the Ortho/Stroke Unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse or LPN. The role focuses on supporting patients with their daily activities and ensuring high standards of care and communication with the healthcare team and patients' families.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport.
  • Performs technical duties as directed by RN/LPN, such as vital signs, point of care testing, bladder scanning, and foley catheter care, and documents appropriately.
  • Identifies and communicates changes in patient's status to RN/LPN and responds appropriately.
  • Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
  • Participates in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Assists in orientation of new hires.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates required knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • High School Diploma or Grade Equivalent Diploma (GED) required.
  • Must have successfully completed a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or have worked an equivalent of 1 year of direct patient care.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Phlebotomy training/education is required for the Emergency Department positions.
