About the position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at Sentara Leigh Hospital involves providing essential support to the nursing staff in the Cardiac/Med Surg Unit 4 West. This full-time position focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, including assisting with daily activities, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment. The PCT will work closely with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient outcomes and contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Support the admission and discharge process for patients.
- Assist with daily care activities such as bathing, changing, and ambulating patients.
- Take vital signs and perform blood draws as needed.
- Provide foley catheter care and meet various patient needs under the supervision of a nurse.
- Observe and report changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Participate in post-cardiac cath care training and shadowing opportunities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- One year of prior healthcare experience preferred.
- American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Completion of one of the following: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), US Navy Hospital Corps School, or Emergency Services training (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic).
- Current enrollment in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or current work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant within the last three years.
