About the position

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing direct patient care and technical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role involves monitoring patients, collecting specimens, assisting with daily living activities, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients. The technician will work 12-hour shifts from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm, ensuring that all patient care activities are performed in accordance with established protocols and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains vital signs, temperature, height/length, weight, oxygen saturation and pain scores; reports abnormal values to RN.
  • Responds to monitor alarms and utilizes palpation/auscultation and Doppler to determine heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Observes, monitors and reports the overt physical condition of assigned patient(s).
  • Measures and records intake and output.
  • Functions as a sitter and assists physician/provider during diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs point of care testing and maintains equipment.
  • Collects blood specimens and other bodily fluids.
  • Discontinues peripheral IVs and removes dressings.
  • Assists patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities.
  • Performs tube feedings and urinary catheterizations.
  • Administers enemas and performs wound care.
  • Assists with respiratory care and measures chest tube drainage.
  • Stocks supplies and maintains orderliness of patient care spaces.
  • Documents care provided and performs clerical duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility/acute care hospital, or enrolled in a nursing program with completion of Fundamentals of Nursing course, or 1 year experience in a short-term care facility, or completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Course work in an Allied Health field.
