About the position

The Oncology Scheduler plays a critical role in the administrative coordination of patient care within the oncology department. This position is responsible for scheduling various medical procedures, entering patient information into the system, and ensuring effective communication between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies. The role aims to provide a seamless experience for patients and their families throughout their treatment journey.

Responsibilities

• Schedule surgical, cardiovascular, or obstetrical procedures using a computerized scheduling system.
• Enter patient charges, orders, and other pertinent information into the system.
• Compile and report statistical information to management.
• Act as an office liaison for department staff, physicians, and patient families.
• Perform patient intake processes, including pre-registration and registration.
• Obtain patient insurance benefit information and necessary authorizations for treatment.
• Provide administrative support in maintaining documents, proposals, and routine correspondence.
• Optimize patient experience through effective customer service and communication.
• Manage medical records and coordinate with hospitals and practice offices to obtain needed records.
• Work independently under general supervision, ensuring efficient coordination of administrative functions.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Three or more years of experience working in a hospital or medical office.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision and make independent decisions.
• Excellent communication, human relations, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Highly developed interpersonal relations and process coordination skills.
