About the position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) plays a crucial role in supporting nursing staff by delivering patient care, performing clerical functions, and maintaining an organized unit environment. This position emphasizes patient satisfaction, safety, and effective communication, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to patient calls within 10 minutes and anticipate patient needs.
  • Perform essential skills such as taking vitals, daily weights, and assisting with hygiene and mobility.
  • Maintain clear and organized patient rooms and assist with meals and feeding.
  • Ensure a safe physical environment and the safe operation of patient-care equipment.
  • Document all care provided, including vital signs and patient care activities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and visitors, explaining the plan of care and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure the unit is in continuous survey readiness and maintain cleanliness in the nurses' station and patient areas.
  • Assist in providing orientation and training for staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Certified Nursing Program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CA DPH) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training certification (LA City) within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
