About the position
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Specialist at Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital is responsible for providing high-quality support in patient care and services. This role requires expert knowledge and clinical skills to assist with daily living activities for patients, while also serving as a preceptor and clinical resource for other PCAs. The PCA Specialist promotes teamwork, communicates effectively with the healthcare team, and ensures patient-centered care is delivered consistently.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, comfort, safety, and nutrition.
- Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource for other PCAs, providing training and orientation.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team to communicate patient care information effectively.
- Document care administered and report observations to licensed personnel.
- Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met and promote patient satisfaction.
- Participate in performance improvement projects and initiatives to enhance patient safety and quality of care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three years of acute care hospital or post-acute care experience, or two years of EMT/Paramedic experience, or Graduate Nurse (GN) status.
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support).
- CNA Certification (Certified Nursing Assistant) for Skilled Nursing Facility/Rehab departments.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with electronic health records, specifically Epic.
