About the position
This position is primarily patient-facing in a clinical setting, specifically within the Emergency Room and Urgent Care. The role involves performing various screening duties, including patient registration, data collection, insurance verification, and financial counseling for unfunded patients. The position is crucial for ensuring the financial viability of Parkland Health and assisting in care plan coordination to eliminate delays in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients, family members, peers, and leadership in a professional, friendly, and respectful manner to promote a positive public image of Parkland.
- Obtain, verify, and update accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information during patient registration.
- Review patient accounts for financial status to identify non-funded and/or under-funded patients and initiate preliminary financial counseling screening.
- Educate patients about financial liabilities and employ proper patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.
- Clearly document actions taken in account notes to ensure information is available and understandable for other departments to review.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED required; Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years experience within a hospital or clinical environment, insurance company, or managed care organization.
- Working knowledge of patient access, financial counseling, and customer service functions in healthcare settings.
- Ability to work multiple computer systems accurately and efficiently.
- Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
Nice-to-haves
- Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.
- Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) preferred.
- Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) preferred.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
