About the position

The Patient Access Representative II is responsible for supporting departmental efficiencies through various tasks including scheduling, registration, patient admissions, and discharge functions. This role requires obtaining accurate patient demographic information and employing compliant patient liability collection techniques. The representative plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth patient experience from pre-admission to discharge, while adhering to financial policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting customers and providing world-class customer service according to Conifer Standards of Care.
  • Completing full patient registration at the date of service.
  • Explaining and securing hospital and patient legal forms such as Advance Directives and Consent for Treatment.
  • Scanning Protected Health Information and creating patient information packets for upcoming hospital services.
  • Assisting with scheduling diagnostic procedures and providing appointment instructions to customers.
  • Educating patients about financial liabilities and employing compliant collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.
  • Performing hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial policies.
  • Securing medical necessity checks and verifying insurance benefits and eligibility.
  • Completing assigned registration financial clearance work lists and obtaining insurance authorizations for services.
  • Assisting with scheduling and coordinating post-discharge care for patients.

Requirements

  • Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer.
  • Knowledge of function and relationships within a hospital environment preferred.
  • Customer service skills and experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications.
  • Course in Medical Terminology required.
  • Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements preferred.
  • Understanding of Compliance standards preferred.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties in at least two Patient Access service areas including ED.
