Responsibilities

  • Performs design and occasional implementation of new PON initiatives.
  • Proactively researches opportunities for improving technical infrastructure, operational processes, and team efficiency within the PON domain.
  • Actively engages in industry committees, working groups, and contributes to the development of white papers on PON technologies and practices.
  • Collaborates closely with the Principal Engineering team to drive innovation through new PON product testing, certification, and implementation.
  • Manages the lifecycle of PON infrastructure; works with the deployment team to perform upgrades to PON systems and associated network elements.
  • Develops Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation, including configuration templates, method of procedures, network diagrams, knowledge base articles, bill of materials, and support documentation.
  • Conducts training for team members and the deployment team on new technology integration, technology upgrades, and new product design and implementation related to PON.
  • Analyzes project requests to estimate time and cost for PON-related tasks and initiatives.
  • Works as part of a project team to determine requirements, risks, and limitations for each PON project scope; ensures all requirements are met through production release.
  • Performs on-call duties and overnight network changes as assigned, ensuring minimal disruption to the PON infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years experience with all PON related technologies, including GPON, EPON, and XGS-PON.
  • Expert understanding of all Calix platforms, including CMS, SMx, and DPx applications.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred.
  • Previous working background in an MSO (Multiple System Operators) in the cable industry preferred.
