About the position

We are seeking a dedicated Parts Specialist to join our team, focusing on both Marine and Power Generation market segments. In this role, you'll leverage your mechanical aptitude and exceptional communication skills to assist customers with their parts needs, ensuring they receive accurate information and prompt service.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers in person, over the phone, and via email with parts inquiries.
  • Utilize electronic and paper catalogs to provide estimates, determine parts availability, and answer general questions.
  • Accurately input orders into internal and external systems, ensuring all information is verified and complete.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of technical information and conduct thorough research across all product lines using online tools.
  • Become proficient with internal systems and major lines of business to provide efficient service.
  • Apply strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills to exceed company and customer expectations.
  • Utilize your parts knowledge to make informed recommendations to customers based on gathered information.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment to ensure efficient operation of the customer service department.
  • Collect accurate and detailed customer order information, including payment methods, to support order processing.
  • Respond promptly to internal product price and availability requests from the service department.
  • Conduct research on purchase order receipt mismatches, past due purchase orders, and tendering transactions, making appropriate suggestions and corrections.
  • Maintain and update the Active Log application throughout the day to track order statuses.
  • Monitor backorders daily, ensuring prompt receipt and distribution of orders.
  • Serve as a backup for warehouse functions, including pulling urgent stock items and assisting with cycle counts as needed.
  • Attend training sessions assigned by management and proactively seek opportunities to enhance your skill set.
  • Perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule to provide customer support outside regular business hours.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned to support the department's objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of parts experience preferred, especially in marine and power generation sectors.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for effective customer interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and online vendor tools.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including calculating discounts, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, which may include after-hours travel.
  • Valid driver's license required.
