About the position

Foundations Counseling is an established and rapidly growing mental health therapy practice providing outpatient therapy services both in person at our McKinney location and through telehealth across the state of Texas. We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced billing specialist with a positive mindset. This candidate should have recognition of the importance of diligent billing and monitoring client accounts for the health of the practice. We are looking for a team member who will interact positively and compassionately with our clients and staff, manage billing, and ensure the office is equipped to function at its highest level. We pride ourselves in cultivating a collaborative, healthy work environment with more than fifteen counselors on staff specializing in different therapeutic approaches. This position is currently part-time, but will potentially grow into a full-time position with PTO, holiday pay, and insurance benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits via online portals and phone calls as necessary
  • Verify CPT code on client claims before submitting to insurance
  • Collect correct client copay amount for visit type
  • Research outstanding balances and take necessary collection actions to resolve in a timely manner
  • Receive client phone calls regarding insurance/billing account questions
  • Utilize the most efficient resources to secure timely payment of open claims
  • Review insurance remittance advice for payment accuracy before posting
  • Identify billing errors, short payments, overpayments, unpaid claims, and resolve accordingly
  • Contact clients when necessary regarding account balance
  • Perform data entry and filing duties as necessary
  • Log all expenses and maintain accurate records of all financial transactions
  • Prepare and process invoices and payments to vendors and suppliers
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Support other administrative staff as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • 2 years of experience in medical billing or bookkeeping/accounting, or similar role
  • Knowledge of medical billing codes (CPT, ICD-10) and insurance reimbursement policies
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve and multitask
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical/mental health billing and office setting with a working knowledge of managed care
