About The Position

This position provides assistance to Animal Control Officers by feeding and watering animals, administering medications, performing minimal grooming, and exercising animals. Responsibilities include cleaning the facility while maintaining disease control protocols, assisting with animal adoptions, and performing basic janitorial and clerical duties. The role supports the overall Animal Control team to ensure efficient operations and the well-being of animals in the Town's care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Previous experience working with animals.
  • Ability to work with animals in a humane manner.
  • Interest in aiding the public and caring for animals.
  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Possess documentation and problem-solving skills.
  • Patient dealing with sick or injured animals.
  • Must be prepared to work irregular hours, weekends and some holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of domestic animal behavior and animal husbandry helpful.
  • One or more years of experience in a veterinary clinic, veterinary hospital, and/or animal shelter, control or other animal facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to all animals impounded at the shelter or under our care, including feral cats, dangerous dogs, exotics, birds, and farm animals.
  • Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages, and public areas, following proper disease control protocol to ensure a sterile environment.
  • Record vital information and observe animal behavior, habits, or concerns, reporting any issues to Animal Control Officers.
  • Administer medications as directed.
  • Assist Animal Control Officer with routine medical treatments including vaccinations, microchipping, blood draws, and basic wound care.
  • Maintain records.
  • Stock all kennel/cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Spot clean kennels and public areas throughout the day.
  • Clean, fold, and stock kennel laundry.
  • Answer phone calls and maintain proper records.
  • Transport animals to and from veterinarian or rehab facilities as needed.
  • Assist with the adoption process, including showing animals to potential adopters.
  • Assist with bathing, grooming, and nail trims.
  • Assist ACO on calls if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
