About the position

Fitchburg State University is seeking a part-time, adjunct professor to teach Anatomy and Physiology for non-majors. This course is designed for students pursuing degrees in Nursing, Exercise and Sports Sciences, and Environmental and Public Health. The position involves teaching two courses: Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOL 1200) and Anatomy and Physiology II (BIOL 1300). BIOL 1200 covers the structure and function of the human organism at various levels, including cellular, tissue, organ, and system levels, with a focus on the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. The lab component includes basic lab safety, histology, and dissections. BIOL 1300 continues from BIOL 1200, covering additional systems such as endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, and reproductive, with practical lab experiences including wet labs and dissections. Both courses require setting up and taking down lab exams and grading lab activities in collaboration with other faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOL 1200) and Anatomy and Physiology II (BIOL 1300).
  • Conduct lab sessions covering various human body systems and basic lab safety.
  • Set up and take down lab exams and practicals.
  • Grade assigned lab activities in collaboration with other faculty.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biology or a similar field with expertise in anatomy and/or physiology.
  • Teaching experience at the university/college level in Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Ability to teach freshman level courses.
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team with other professors.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
  • Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
