About the position

The Part-Time 4-H Summer Assistant/Intern at The Pennsylvania State University is responsible for supporting the County 4-H team in delivering high-quality youth development programs. This role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating various educational activities and events for youth, ensuring their safety and supervision during these programs. The assistant will also engage in marketing efforts to promote participation and assist in administrative tasks related to program management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, and projects for youth.
  • Monitor children and ensure their safety during programs.
  • Participate in regional or state events as appropriate.
  • Support summer 4-H educational programs, camps, contests, and fundraisers.
  • Record registration, chaperone, conduct workshops, and assist with management of shows and contests.
  • Write news releases and social media posts to promote programs.
  • Assist with survey data entry as needed.
  • Collaborate with other staff in planning and conducting programs and events.
  • Help the Educator reach new and inclusive audiences.
  • Submit work time and travel reports for reimbursement.
  • Establish and maintain summer files.
  • Complete end of summer reports of time, contacts, and impact reports.
  • Observe the operation of a Penn State Extension Office.

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in planning and teaching activities and educational programs.
  • Ability to work with diverse youth and adults.
  • Must be able to carry equipment and educational materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences, or related fields.
  • Previous experience with the 4-H program.
