About the position

The Parks Technician I/II/III position at the City of Golden involves providing support for the maintenance and operations of parks, athletic fields, and open spaces. This role encompasses a variety of tasks including landscape maintenance, facility repairs, and support for special events. The position is available at three levels, with increasing responsibilities and skill requirements, and may involve working evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of parks and athletic field complex maintenance operations.
  • Perform landscape maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, aeration, and fertilization.
  • Apply herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides safely.
  • Conduct facility maintenance including repairs to public facilities like restrooms and playgrounds.
  • Assist in the construction and installation of park facilities such as playground equipment and irrigation systems.
  • Provide janitorial support including trash collection and cleaning public restrooms.
  • Maintain right of way through roadside weed mowing and trash removal.
  • Perform snow removal for driveways, trails, sidewalks, and parking lots.
  • Record and maintain workflow information using Cartegraph software.
  • Provide support for special events as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Experience in skilled landscape maintenance, construction, and equipment operation required for higher levels.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Current Pesticide Applicator License and other relevant certifications preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Commercial or municipal parks/landscaping experience preferred for entry-level positions.
  • Completion of CSU Master Gardener Certification for Parks Technician II.
  • NALP Landscape Industry Certified Technician for Parks Technician III.
