About The Position

The Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Bedford and Fulton counties work in partnership with families to build children’s and parents’ strength, promote self-esteem, and encourage self-sufficiency and lifelong learning. This position will plan, organize, develop and implement a service plan including activities for each family to ensure that the highest quality services are provided.

Requirements

  • If hired after November 1st, 2016, a minimum of a home-based Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential with experience in social work, human/family services and/or experience in home support services preferred.
  • A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE

  • ACT 34/151 CLEARANCES

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate records of home visits, group sessions, classroom experiences, family contacts, services to children, food data, etc., as per procedures.
  • Provides services to assigned families with children’s ages birth to five years including pregnant mothers.
  • Maintains good relationships with community agencies and the public to encourage community support and understanding of the Family Center, Head Start/Early Head Start Staff.
  • Maintains in good repair and control program equipment and supplies used during home visits and group sessions according to policies and procedures.
  • Maintains inventory according to procedure.
  • Assists the child development team in planning the education curriculum, assessing training needs, and developing a training plan.
  • Assists with recruitment as requested including publicity, taking applications, including obtaining income information, providing families with appropriate information, etc.
  • Completes families’ needs assessment and develops a plan with the families to address identified needs.
  • Provides input into the development of new and revised programming to meet family needs.
  • Works with school personnel and families to develop schedules and programs (i.e working with teen parents, transition activities, Read to Succeed.)
  • Works with Early Childhood personnel acting as liaison between agencies and parents.
  • Assists Mental Health/Disabilities/Transition Coordinator and/or Family Center Coordinator with evaluation and transition as requested.
  • Cooperates with coordinating staff in planning and evaluation program activities, goals, objectives and component philosophy.
  • Serves as a resource person and technical advisor to other staff members to facilitate positive interaction with children and parents.
  • Encourages parents to fulfill requested health/dental requirements as defined by program guidelines and policies.
  • Uses developmental assessment instrument to evaluate the growth, behavior and progress of enrolled children.
  • Uses these tools as instruments to teach parents child development and to improve their competency as parents.
  • Reports child abuse and neglect cases to Family Services Coordinator and/or Family Center Coordinator and works closely with the family and/or appropriate agencies.
  • Ensures that all suspected special needs are promptly referred to the Mental Health/Disabilities/Transition Coordinator and/or Family Center Coordinator for diagnosis, referral and the development of a treatment plan.
  • Assists with implementing this treatment plan.
