About the position

The purpose of this job is to transport passengers in a passenger van on a demand-response system and provide customer service. The position involves operating and transporting passengers in vans in varying weather conditions, providing customer service and passenger assistance, including operation of wheelchair lift and securement devices. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function, and employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class E Chauffeur license.
  • Knowledge of streets and locations within Columbia, MO.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to motor vehicles, Federal Transportation Administration (FTA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), public works, and transit policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of defensive driving and accident prevention.
  • Skill in operating fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to assist with boarding/deboarding of passengers.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to provide high levels of effective customer service.
  • Ability to count money and make change.
  • Ability to prepare and write basic reports.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
