About the position

The Paraprofessional in the Student Success Center (SSC) plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and instructional environment for students. This position focuses on helping students develop responsibility and confidence through various intervention strategies while providing academic assistance and collaborating with teachers. The individual is expected to maintain a positive atmosphere conducive to learning and manage student behavior effectively.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a caring and instructional climate for students.
• Provide academic assistance and collaborate with teachers to collect assignments.
• Record data for documentation and evaluation purposes.
• Exercise crisis management strategies to de-escalate student behavior.
• Monitor for hostile behaviors to ensure safety of students and staff.
• Interact professionally with administrators, students, staff, and parents.
• Maintain an instructional focus among students in the room.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• An Associate's degree or completion of 48 semester hours at an institution of higher learning.
• Demonstrated proficiency in assisting in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Background or experience working with behaviorally disordered students in a secondary setting (preferred).
• Previous experience in a public school setting (preferred).
• Ability to collaborate as a team member and follow oral and written directions.
• Good mental and physical health, with a positive attendance record.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with SMART boards and iPads.
• Ability to handle diverse student needs with tact and diplomacy.
