About the position

The Paraeducator position at East Elementary School is designed to provide students with support in an educational environment. The role involves working with students individually or in groups to support their academics, organization, vocational skills, and other education-related activities. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible, and the Paraeducator will be responsible to the Principal or Assistant Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Support students who demonstrate developmental challenges with academic acquisition, social-emotional regulation, and gross and fine motor development
  • Implement individualized or small group lessons for students as directed by other school staff
  • Support students who are integrated into the general education classroom and attend special education classes to meet their academic, social, and emotional goals as outlined in Individualized Education Plans and as directed by other staff
  • Collect student data, as directed by other staff
  • Implement students' behavior support plans as needed, as directed by other staff, including providing executive function coaching
  • Support the supervision of students in and out of the classroom throughout the school day as assigned
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, and staff
  • Partake in discrete trials, and data and follow behavior plans while integrating students into general ed as stated on IEP
  • Attend ongoing professional development to support role
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal or designee

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form
  • Maintain personal and professional boundaries
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with other staff, students, and families
  • Successful completion of a background check and CORI required

Nice-to-haves

  • Ideal candidates are team-oriented, flexible, reliable, compassionate, energetic, patient, and willing to learn
  • Training in Applied Behavior Analysis, discrete trials, picture communication, and behavior plans preferred
  • Understanding of varying disabilities preferred
