About The Position

The Paraeducator will assist in creating a nurturing educational environment that supports academic, social, and emotional growth for children. This role involves providing direct support to students under the guidance of a teacher, maintaining an organized and safe learning environment, and assisting with various administrative and logistical tasks.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or High School Diploma/G.E.D. and evidence of education or testing requirements according to PDE guidelines.
  • Bilingual required for ELL and Dual Immersion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to take initiative to creatively solve problems.
  • Ability to work as an individual and as a team member.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of customer service skills and professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate a computer and applicable software and devices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Ability to support a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Experience working with students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist children individually and in small groups as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with preparation of educational materials, and audio-visual aides and equipment.
  • Maintain organization of learning materials and ensure easy accessibility.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment for children.
  • Provide students with appropriate level of assistance needed to complete assignments.
  • Assist in monitoring of lunchroom, lavatories, playgrounds, and corridors/stairwells.
  • Accompany students to and from various locations within the building as assigned.
  • Assist with monitoring of students entering and leaving the building.
  • Assist assigned students including those that require ambulatory support (walker, crutches, wheelchair) in getting on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
  • Assist in handling student and parent needs.
  • Report incidents and serious discipline problems to principal or designee and assist with providing support.
  • Distribute and collect educational materials as required.
  • Assist in maintaining child accounting records as needed.
  • Make and answer phone calls as directed by the teacher or supervisor.
  • Assist with the kindergarten screening process.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
