About the position

The Paraeducator II position at Higley Unified School District is a full-time role focused on supporting students with special needs in various educational settings. The role involves working closely with teachers to reinforce learning, assist with personal care, and implement behavioral plans. The Paraeducator will also supervise students during various activities and ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Instruct individual students or small groups to reinforce material or skills introduced by the teacher.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips.
  • Alert the teacher to any problems or special information about a student.
  • Implement behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parents and school personnel.
  • Work with special needs students across all instructional settings.
  • Remove students from the classroom if they need a break and provide other activities to redirect behavior.
  • Restrain students to prevent injury to self or others using CPI strategies when necessary.
  • Assist students with personal care activities, including feeding, toileting, positioning, and safety monitoring.
  • Document activities of daily living for Medicaid reimbursement as per I.E.P guidelines.
  • Participate in meetings and in-service training as required.
  • Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of student information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (no online classes).
  • Experience working with children one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities, including emotional disabilities and autism.
  • Ability to build relationships of trust with students and teachers.
  • Skills in instruction, basic academic matters, problem-solving, and managing work assignments.
  • Ability to pass background and reference checks as per District standards.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Maintain CPI certification (training available upon hire).
