About the position

The Para II - Center Based Resource position at Olathe Public Schools is responsible for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs. This role involves implementing instructional plans, monitoring student behavior, and providing necessary support to ensure a conducive learning environment. The position is part of the special education team and requires collaboration with certified staff to meet the individual educational needs of students.

Responsibilities

• Adapts and provides accommodations of classroom activities under the direction of the teacher.
• Aids students in and out of the classroom, assisting with personal care needs and social skills development.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey relevant information.
• Collaborates with staff to provide support related to student progress as per their Individual Education Program (IEP).
• Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team to assist special education students.
• Instructs students in various activities to meet IEP goals under the direction of certified staff.
• Maintains instructional materials and data sheets to ensure availability and reliability of information regarding student progress.
• Monitors students during assigned periods in various school and community environments.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• If classified as Title I, 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title 1 assessment test is required.
• Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices, safety practices, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to communicate with diverse groups and maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in special education or working with students with disabilities.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and blood-borne pathogen safety.
