About the position

The Paint Line Process Engineer at Big River Steel LLC is a pivotal role responsible for assisting the Coated Products Manager in overseeing the successful direction, planning, and execution of all paint line operations and initiatives. This position plays a crucial part in ensuring that all policies, procedures, and activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of Big River Steel (BRS) at the departmental level. The engineer will be tasked with ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements, including ResponsibleSteel standards where applicable. In this role, the engineer will assist in developing training programs aimed at enhancing employee integrity and competence, thereby ensuring an effective Quality Management System is in place. Monitoring the departmental organization is essential, and the engineer will recommend appropriate changes to the Coated Products Manager to meet or exceed BRS business needs. Collaboration with other departmental leadership teams is also a key responsibility, as the engineer will support efforts to strengthen BRS profitability and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer will ensure that departmental operations and facilities are well-maintained to support the integrity of assets and will work closely with the Paint Line Leadership Team to develop and maintain an operating budget that aligns with the BRS Business Plan. This position requires a strong commitment to safety and ethical practices, as well as the ability to lead and manage teams effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed.
  • Assist Coated Products Manager in developing training programs to support employee integrity and competence.
  • Monitor the departmental organization and recommend appropriate changes to meet or exceed BRS business needs.
  • Support other Departmental Leadership Teams to strengthen BRS profitability and continual improvement efforts.
  • Ensure policies, procedures and all activities are carried out to support BRS goals and objectives.
  • Ensure departmental operations and facilities are well maintained to support integrity of assets.
  • Work with Paint Line Leadership Team to develop and maintain an operating budget for the department.

Requirements

  • Strong Leadership and conflict management skills.
  • Strong technical and analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Good insight into team dynamics and a positive team player.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, Computer literate.
  • Ability to demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment (Pre-paint experience preferred).
  • Previous related supervisory experience preferred.
