About the position

This is a requisition for employment at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO). The consultancy is part of global initiatives on cancer control, specifically focusing on the implementation of several projects in the Latin America and Caribbean region (LAC) in collaboration with Ministries of Health from Member States. The consultancy aims to support the PAHO technical team with coordination, planning, implementation, and monitoring of WHO/PAHO cancer initiatives, particularly the Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer as a public health problem. The consultant will work closely with the cancer advisor and PAHO counterparts in Country and Subregional offices, as well as relevant stakeholders from Member States.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of cervical cancer screening and management algorithms and key performance indicators for monitoring and evaluation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Contribute to the development, organization, and dissemination of PAHO training and educational material for HPV test-based screening programs.
  • Coordinate regional meetings with key stakeholders and decision-makers to show progress and disseminate results.
  • Disseminate regional experiences in introducing HPV testing in Member States.
  • Provide technical support to Member States for strengthening cancer surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation of their cancer control initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation and scale-up of HPV-test based screening programs.
  • Report on the availability and use of capacity building materials for cancer screening program managers and general health workforce.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in public health, Doctorate in Medicine or related fields with noncommunicable diseases from a recognized university.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in cancer initiatives and public health.
  • Planning, monitoring, and reporting skills, including excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an international environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work in a team and collaborate with others.
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Very good knowledge of Spanish or English, with a working knowledge of the other language.

Benefits

  • Contract Duration: One year with the possibility of extension.

  • Schedule: Full-time, aligned with PAHO's Washington, D.C. office hours.
  • Remuneration: US$ 258 - US$314 per day, in line with Pay Band B (Middle).
  • Payments will be made in installments on receipt of deliverables to the satisfaction of PAHO.
