About the position

The Packaging Engineer II position at Dermalogica, a part of the Unilever Prestige family, is a dynamic role that supports the company's significant growth aspirations in the professional skincare industry. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including New Product Development (NPD), product maintenance, cost savings, and sustainability initiatives. The Packaging Engineer will work closely with management and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project launches, while also directing communication with packaging suppliers and contract manufacturers to verify quality, accuracy, and design across all product brands. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for driving innovative design and materials for both primary and secondary packaging components, ensuring that the packaging not only meets aesthetic standards but also aligns with sustainability goals. The engineer will maintain project timelines, tasks, and costs to ensure that new products are launched on time and within budget. Additionally, the role involves managing all aspects of component specification development, including the creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and document retention for packaging materials across all Dermalogica systems. The Packaging Engineer II will define specifications, defect ranges, and design criteria to facilitate an optimized process flow from component manufacture through filling and assembly. They will compile samples, quotes, and specifications required for internal testing on both primary and secondary packaging components, and lead sustainability efforts on packaging materials across all business segments. Liaising with contract manufacturers to ensure that packaging is optimized for the production environment is also a key responsibility of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Drive innovative design and materials for both primary and secondary components resulting in industry leading packaging and sustainability.
  • Maintain project timelines, tasks, and costs to ensure on-time, on-cost launches of new products.
  • Manage all aspects of component specification development, BOM creation and document retention for packaging materials across all Dermalogica systems.
  • Define specifications, defect ranges and design criteria to facilitate an optimized process flow from component manufacture thru fill and assembly.
  • Compile samples, quotes and specifications required for internal testing on both primary and secondary packaging components.
  • Investigate and lead sustainability efforts on packaging materials across all business segments.
  • Liaise with contract manufactures to ensure packaging is optimized for the production environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering from a recognized Packaging Program.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Packaging Engineering role, preferably within CPG or Skin Care/Beauty.
  • Knowledge and/or preferably experience with Extrusion Blow Molding, Injection Molding, Dispensing Systems, Decoration techniques for both primary and secondary packaging, and secondary packaging such as folding cartons, enclosures, set-boxes, and corrugated.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with sustainability initiatives in packaging design.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
