About the position

The Criminal Justice Training Academy is a component of the Attorney General's Office of Ohio. The academy trains new law enforcement and corrections officers for Ohio's law enforcement agencies and jails. Ohio Attorney General's office controls all academy training curriculum and standards via the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA). The training curriculum must be administered by OPOTA certified instructors who meet the criteria for Instructors as set by the state.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the mandated state curriculum to students.
  • Test cadets to determine if student performance standards are being met.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or possession of a General Education Development certificate.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant, full-time law enforcement experience.
  • Completion of an instructor training program approved by the executive director consisting of a minimum of forty clock hours.
  • Completion of an instructor-level training program approved by the executive director for specific knowledge and skills in a unit for which certification is requested.
  • Recommendation of a current basic training school commander.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a license in a particular discipline such as medical doctors, attorneys, nurses, judges, or teachers of special subjects related to the basic course.
  • Recognition for competency in law enforcement related areas such as probation, corrections, health, fire, drug enforcement, traffic, or other special subject or skill areas.
