About The Position

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians to join our Emergency Service veterinary program at our new veterinary teaching hospital. SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and a full pharmacy with sterile compounding capabilities. These positions will support the clinical services in the veterinary teaching hospital treating patients and educating students. Selected candidates will be able to provide comprehensive and quality care to clients and patients, demonstrate a commitment to a collaborative and collegial work culture, and problem-solve and adapt to a fast-growing and changing environment with a growth mindset. This job requires overnight shifts.

Requirements

  • Veterinary Technicians (Credentialed, evidence of passing the VTNE)
  • Level 1 Veterinary Technician: Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification eligible or achieved, or equivalent specialty-level expertise, Minimum 5 years clinical experience
  • Level 2 Veterinary Technician: Minimum 5 years clinical experience
  • Level 3 Veterinary Technician: Minimum 3 years clinical experience
  • Level 1 Veterinary Assistant: Associate degree or higher, Minimum 5 years clinical experience
  • Level 2 Veterinary Assistant: Associate degree or higher, Minimum 3 years clinical experience
  • Employees must have 4+ years of applicable experience to be hired above the probationary rate per the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Willing to work flexible hours (days, swing or overnight) and weekends as needed.
  • Overnight shifts will be required.
  • Previous experience working in a teaching environment.
  • Previous experience working in an emergency or urgent care veterinary practice.
  • Adaptable to a fast-growing and developing workplace.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medications, calculations, and common emergency procedures.
  • Excellence and interest in developing interpersonal skills in relation to co-workers, clinicians, students, staff, and clients.
