About the position

The Orthopedic Tech I position at Nemours Children's Health in Orlando, Florida, is a full-time role responsible for assisting in orthopedic patient care. This includes performing casting procedures, managing orthopedic equipment, and providing patient education regarding the use and care of casts and orthopedic devices. The role requires collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure efficient patient care and involves travel to various satellite locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all casting procedures and application/approval of soft goods.
  • Assist the provider to expedite the patient care process.
  • Manage all casting and orthopedic equipment.
  • Apply and remove all types of casts, splints, and soft goods.
  • Modify casts as needed for patient benefit in clinic and hospital settings.
  • Instruct patients and guardians on the appropriate use and care of casts and orthopedic equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of all casting materials, splints, and soft goods.
  • Capture and enter patient information into EMR.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation such as x-rays and laboratory reports are available for provider's review.
  • Room patients into exam rooms and prepare for exams.
  • Assist the provider with procedures as necessary.
  • Schedule PT/OT, surgery, and diagnostic tests under the provider's direction.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Specialized training (1 year beyond high school) is required.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years' experience in a related field is required.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required upon hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with high schoolers.
