About the position

The Center for Student Success & Coaching provides those services, programs and activities that complement the academic program, and both enhance and integrate the intellectual, personal, social, physical and spiritual development of students. The role of an OL/RA is to create and provide a safe, secure and nurturing living environment in conjunction with the overall mission of the Center for Student Success & Coaching office. This document will serve as a one-semester agreement between the Center for Student Success & Coaching and students serving as OL/RAs at LIU.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all OL/RA training sessions and be responsible for all training material as well as all information provided in the OL/RA manual.
  • Have mandatory on-duty responsibilities in the assigned residence hall.
  • Address and report any and all suspicious behavior or policy violations at the time made aware.
  • Attend all All-RA Staff Meetings, Weekly RA Staff Meetings, One-on-Ones, and Campus Connections.
  • Plan and administer 8-10 social and educational programs per semester in the residence hall and three Campus Connections as instructed by the Residence Director.
  • Maintain door tags and bulletin boards.
  • Be visible and available to the residence hall community.
  • Participate in University functions and events (e.g. admissions open houses).
  • Return to campus, or remain on campus, and perform 24-hour duty in the event of a campus closure due to weather or another emergency.
  • Submit all administrative paperwork, duty logs, incident reports, and other documents in a timely and professional manner.
  • Check LIU email and the LIU RA Hub daily.
  • Practice proper confidentiality and enforce FERPA at all times.
  • Fulfill all other duties as assigned by The Center for Student Success & Coaching and/or the Residence Director.
  • Be continuously evaluated by supervisor(s) through RA performance discussions, one-on-one meetings, progress reports, and evaluations.

Requirements

  • Must be a matriculated student enrolled in full-time coursework at LIU.
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 semester and cumulative Grade Point Average.
  • Must maintain a current and clear student financial account.
  • Must remain in good conduct standing with the University.

Benefits

  • Compensation as an Orientation Leader is $400.
  • Compensation as an OL/RA includes a room accommodation.
