Inform patients on pre-op and post-op instructions. Provide diagnostic information through X-rays, dental impressions, and casts. Monitor the patient's vital signs during surgery. Document treatment by charting in patients' records. Set up the procedure area according to the type of procedure planned. Pass surgical instrumentation, dressing, prep, and remove sutures and debris intraoperatively. Clean sterile instruments and equipment according to the IFU. Room patients and collect medical history. Prepare patients for surgery including preop sedation counseling. Proper handling of instrumentation and equipment pre/post-procedure. Performing all procedures including dental implants, facial procedures, and clinical administrative duties, including but not limited to estimate creation, anticoagulation plans, referring provider follow-up, anticoagulation plans, FMLA paperwork, etc. Assists the lead assistant with maintaining efficient patient flows, which may include triage, support and training of junior assistants, development of standards of work and process improvement, through participation in an Ambulatory Care Services committee and/or workgroup.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • 4-6 years Dental or Surgical Tech experience Required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • CDA-Certified Dental Assistant - DANB - Dental Assisting National Board Inc Required or Surgical Technologist - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
  • DAANCE-Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination - AAOMS - American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Required
  • Ability to take direction from an oral surgeon
  • ability to work quickly, be organized and detail oriented.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods.
  • Should be reliable and have strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Epic experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up of operating area in accordance with the type of procedure being planned.
  • Pass surgical tools, surgical dressing preparation and remove suture/debris removal.
  • Clean sterile instruments and equipment according to the IFU’s.
  • Attach relevant monitoring equipment in preparation for surgery.
  • Prepare patients for procedure.
  • Obtain and record patient vital signs.
  • Proper handling of instrumentation and equipment pre/post procedure.
  • Monitor and maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
  • Ensure the patient does not breathe in fluids during procedure.
  • Protect patient’s lips, cheeks, and tongue from unnecessary injury.
  • Continued monitoring of vital signs and instruction on post-operative care.
  • Assist surgeon in the recovery of patients from sedation and anesthesia.
  • Record treatment charts.
  • Provide diagnostic information through x-rays, dental impressions, and casts.
  • Appointment scheduling and confirmation.
  • Ordering and managing the storage of dental supplies.
  • Practices in alignment with Joint Commission guidelines and protocols
