Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • American Heart Association Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) by completion of hospital orientation
  • Minimum Work Experience at least 1 year experience in a general OR environment required
  • RN License required

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical Technologist Certification (NCCT or NBSTSA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains surgical instruments in the OR suite and ensures their proper set-up, assists surgical team during the surgical procedure(s).
  • Has an understanding of the procedures being performed and can anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during procedure.
  • Transport to decontamination room upon completion of the surgical procedure.
  • Handles instruments and supplies correctly and ensures their proper functioning.
  • Responsible for all instruments, maintaining them in good working order, and assuring the availability of needed instruments to do all surgical cases.
  • Maintains sterile field and counts all instruments, sponges, needles etc, needed for each case.
  • Has necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during operative procedures.
  • Cleans, assembles, and prepares instruments, equipment, and supplies for sterilization when needed.
  • Follows proper sterilization processes.
  • Participates in testing and recording of all Biotesting for the sterilizers and autoclaves in the department as needed.
  • Responsible for confirming equipment while in the OR/Procedure room.
  • Sterile field has been appropriately processed/sterilized.
