About the position

The OPS Public Information Specialist position at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) focuses on enhancing visitor engagement with Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) through strategic outreach and communication efforts. The role involves developing and executing campaigns to attract new visitors, managing digital platforms, and creating content that informs the public about recreational opportunities available in WMAs. This position is ideal for an outgoing and self-motivated individual passionate about outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and strategize outreach activities to promote Florida's WMA system and attract new visitors.
  • Help coordinate efforts for events and promotions related to WMAs.
  • Manage the redesign of FWC webpages pertaining to the WMA system, ensuring accuracy and user-friendly experience.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to media outlets regarding the agency's activities.
  • Assess scientific information and write clear news releases, talking points, and web articles.
  • Assist with promoting newsletters, brochures, and other print materials.
  • Create and review content for social media and other platforms, ensuring consistent coverage of agency initiatives.
  • Conduct research to identify trends and visitor preferences for WMAs.
  • Analyze data to identify areas of improvement and new opportunities.
  • Prepare reports summarizing public information activities and recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with news media and local organizations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, communications, or a related field.
  • Preferred 2-4 years' experience in brand management or related roles, preferably within tourism or outdoor recreation fields.
  • Experience in a related field can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
