About the position
The Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe plays a crucial role in supporting the ophthalmology practice by maintaining accurate patient documentation, assisting the doctor during examinations, and ensuring a high standard of patient care. This position involves performing diagnostic tests, documenting exam findings, and providing instructions to patients, all while maintaining confidentiality and a compassionate approach to patient interactions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and record all chart documentation correctly in the patient's chart.
- Assist the doctor and the patient to ensure proper care is provided.
- Document exam findings in the patient's charts as dictated by the doctor.
- Perform diagnostic tests requested by the doctor (training provided).
- Instill drops to patients' eyes if needed (all training provided).
- Instruct patients regarding medications and treatment both verbally and in writing.
- Ensure rooms are properly cleaned for the next day.
- Maintain patients' confidentiality.
- Assist the Technician as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Medical background preferred, but not required.
- Good handwriting and computer skills are essential.
- Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with EMR systems (1 year preferred).
- Familiarity with medical terminology (1 year preferred).
