About the position

The Operations Supervisor at GFL Industries is responsible for overseeing site operations and ensuring the safety and efficiency of all employees and equipment. This role emphasizes leadership, effective resource management, and adherence to safety regulations, while also focusing on employee relations and operational profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Sustain a productive and motivated workforce by screening, selecting, hiring, training, and developing personnel.
  • Adhere to all wage and hour laws and compensate personnel according to established guidelines.
  • Ensure safe working conditions at each job site.
  • Develop and implement an effective preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Schedule and conduct safety meetings, documenting attendees and topics covered.
  • Maintain necessary records related to operations and safety.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Operate equipment as necessary to fulfill job requirements.
  • Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three or more years of experience in the waste industry (landfill or transfer operations preferred).
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Combination of education and/or experience is acceptable.
  • For Transfer Stations, must possess a SWANA certified transfer station operator certification within 60 days of hire.
  • For Landfills, must have one year of experience operating horizontal baler and bobcat/forklift, and successfully complete training for certification in the removal of Freon and handling hazardous materials.
