About the position

The Operations Manager for CVI Laser Optics in Rochester is a pivotal role responsible for enhancing operational efficiency, production planning, and customer satisfaction. This position involves leading a team to implement standard operating procedures across various manufacturing processes, ensuring alignment with financial commitments and productivity metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Define resource needs and work within budget and staffing parameters to accomplish production objectives.
  • Coach and mentor the team to improve engagement and establish communication channels between cross-functional teams.
  • Direct and coordinate activities across all manufacturing departments, including planning, machine shop, glass polishing shop, and assembly.
  • Establish monthly and annual goals with CVI leadership, reviewing achievements and discussing necessary changes.
  • Develop capacity modeling based on commercial forecasts and ensure proper resourcing plans are executed to support customer demand.
  • Improve business performance through the development and use of improved processes, tools, and metrics.
  • Increase productivity, capacity, and on-time delivery by scheduling resources and training staff.
  • Develop staff to improve performance through systems utilization and process improvements using Lean Tools.
  • Lead and improve Demand Planning to align financial, operational, and material plans via a robust SIOP process.
  • Drive initiatives to ensure continuity of supply throughout operations to achieve uninterrupted supply of quality components and assemblies.
  • Manage all aspects of manufacturing operations while ensuring customer on-time delivery of >98% to all customers.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments to complete tasks on time and with quality, anticipating problem areas in advance.
  • Review and analyze activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with functional leaders to achieve operational objectives in cost, quality, delivery, lead time, and inventory management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, scientific discipline, or related field.
  • 5 years of technical and management experience in operations leadership (manufacturing and supply chain) and/or factory management, including three years in Operations, Supply Chain, and Continuous Improvement.
  • Experience in the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes in a complex industrial or heavy equipment industry.
  • Material management experience driving on-time delivery.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six Sigma / Lean Certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Supply Chain best practices and multi-step strategic sourcing processes.
  • Excellent business and commercial acumen and change agent skills.
