About The Position

Under moderate supervision, this position plans, schedules, and supervises the day-to-day operations of one or more departments to meet production requirements in an aircraft manufacturing operation. The role ensures compliance with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), quality, productivity, and budget standards, as well as 6S and housekeeping. It also involves preparing employees and work groups for future requirements through training and development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Management, Aviation Maintenance or related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 18 months of managerial experience with accountability and ownership of employee relations activities (performance reviews, hiring/termination recommendations, compensation recommendations, employee development) in a technically related role (aviation maintenance, general manufacturing).
  • Proven leadership ability and effectiveness in an entry-level supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing.
  • Proficient in using computerized database management (Excel) and presentation systems (PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns production responsibilities, work plans, and schedule requirements to department leads and coordinators to ensure jobs are completed in a manner that satisfies FAA regulations.
  • Coordinates with engineering, finance, materials, quality, and other departments to ensure schedules and budgets are met and problems are resolved.
  • Assists in troubleshooting production process problems with existing processes and equipment, minimizing costs and preventing delivery delays.
  • Enforces quality standards and monitors/provides corrective action for workmanship issues.
  • Conducts periodic audits to ensure compliance with Quality Assurance Procedures (QAP) and coordinates with the Quality Assurance team to develop and implement revised or new procedures.
  • Executes manufacturing strategy for the department(s) encompassing Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement philosophies and concepts, leading the implementation of Lean Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Promotes, encourages, and leads assigned employees and MBU(s) towards continuous process and performance improvement.
  • Ensures the department(s) has adequate resources to perform assigned tasks.
  • Implements company policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains a safe work environment, ensuring stringent housekeeping, 6S standards, and safety procedures are followed. Leads trend and root cause analysis and accident investigations.
  • Provides input for the development of business unit strategic plans to ensure budget, product cost, productivity, inventory levels, delivery performance, quality objectives, and operational goals are met.
  • Develops subordinate personnel to have the necessary technical skills, training, and certifications.
  • Encourages innovation and maintains awareness of best practices across the company and manufacturing industry.
  • Ensures departmental emergency action plans support the business unit's Business Continuity Plan and can be executed effectively.
  • May include flight tests on aircraft in support of aircraft certification and final phase testing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
